Style Guide
This page documents how everything on this site reads and looks, including itself. What appears on this site is governed by this style guide and my content standards guide. Both are intended to resolve ambiguity when it exists, not to preemptively constrain what is allowed. They will only evolve as needed.
Generally
These items apply to everything on this site:
- All wiki notes and weblog posts are written in my own words in the first person.
- Linked text is only linked in context, not on phrases like “this link” or words like “here.”
- Use Title Case for page titles and headings.
- Use bold for words that shouldn’t be overlooked.
- Use italics for words that frame the page or site itself.
- Use
<dfn>tags to define terms site-wide only once. - Use smart quotes, not dumb quotes: “like this” and it’s.
- Use serial commas: X, Y, and Z.
Page-Specific
- Wiki notes document the current state of something and are written in the present tense. They evolve, aggregate, and subdivide over time.
- Weblog posts document things I have done and are written in the past tense. They do not change over time.
- The about page and now page are treated the same as a wiki note, while the homepage is excepted from this guide to enable 1kB Club optimization.
Specific Words and Phrases
These are my spelling and capitalization preferences for this site:

- &c. is used to denote et cetera.
Additionally, Defined Terms are terms that have been defined on this site using <dfn> tags. These should be spelled and capitalized the same everywhere on the site. They are:
